Spring Photo-a-Day Week | Day 4

Day #4--I'm afraid this one is a bit of a cheat, as it's me in the picture and the picture is taken by a friend. All that to say, I wanted a picture of the yummy berry crisp we made. It was delicious.

Spring Photo-a-Day Week | Day 3

Day #3--A friends feet by Sterling Pond. The water was frigid, but she took off her shoes and dipped her feet in the water anyway.

Spring Photo-a-Day Week | Day 2

Day #2--Today there was no sunlight or anything lovely to photograph outside, so I turned to my dashing brother. You cannot imagine how many tries it took to get a good picture of him. He gave me so many "poses" that made me laugh, but didn't accomplish my purpose!! :)

Spring Photo-a-Day Week | Day 1

Hello, friends.

I have decided to do another Photo-a-Day week, because I so loved my last one. It was really fun to be forced to capture some beauty everyday. So I'm beginning today, and will complete it on April Fool's Day. I'm on Spring Break, so I have a bit more time. :)

Day #1--These sunflowers make me feel that it is Springtime, despite the frigid temperatures today. And then my breakfast...almond flour raisin scones, an egg fried in a red bell pepper ring, and hibiscus tea. Lovely. And I know that's two photos, but I couldn't help it. :)

Note: I've been having blogger background issues, which accounts for the provisional background I had for a few days. Never fear, I have at last sorted it out and I am back to the background I wanted. Thanks for understanding!

Best,

Tea Bread

This a delicious tea bread that I'm very excited about. It's from the Redwall Cookbook,  which has surprisingly good recipes. It's a very dense quick bread that is sweetened with dried fruit and only 4 tsps. of sugar. I made it with sprouted grain flour, but the original recipe called for half whole wheat and half white. It's successful either way, I'm sure.

Tea Bread
from the Redwall Cookbook

3 c. mixed dried fruit (raisins, currants, golden raisins)
1 1/2 c. hot brewed tea
4 t. dark brown sugar (I used coconut sugar)
2 T. pumpkin pie spice
2 t. baking powder
1 beaten egg

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and grease a loaf pan.

2. Place the dried fruit in a large bowl. Pour the hot tea over the fruit, stir in the brown sugar and let mixture cool for 5 minutes.

3. In a bowl, whisk together flours, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder and salt. Stir the dry ingredients into the fruit mixture, then stir in the egg until well combined.

4. Scrape the batter into the pan, level the surface, and place in the top third of the oven. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean, about an hour.

5. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Slice thinly to serve.

Enjoy!

And here is a printable recipe.

Breezy Days

This picture of Gillian is priceless.

Daffodils from Trader Joe's. At last it is that time of year.

 A walk with my kinfolk.

Nathanael's seventh birthday. And that's my Daddy, friends. He's an Anglican Bishop.

Another walk with my friend, Constance.

The sun in the evergreens, and Becket in his rain boots.

Perhaps this winter season is at last breaking. I'm so ready for sunny mornings and long evenings. Until then, at least the grass is now mostly visible, wearing flats isn't as adventurous as before, and our "snow crew", i.e. the boys, is less active. It's the beginning.

The weekend is the time to catch up on my neglected blog. Bear with me, friends, and stay tuned!

5 Ways to Wear a Tapestry Scarf

Hello, friends! So...I was disappointed with the way the photos turned out for my last post regarding tapestry scarf wearing, so I decided to redo it. You'll notice some evident differences from the last attempt (I hope!), and in case you're wondering, the last post is no longer visible. Those photos were embarrassing.

I've ordered the examples by the basic style, and put in any variations on that style below it.

Here's to second time's the charm!

1. Metropolitan
Everyone wears this, but let us not forget its timelessness.

2. Artisanal
Take the two tasseled ends from your Metropolitan, cross them (like you're beginning a knot), and tighten or loosen as desired.

3. Parisian Knot
The classic warm and adorable scarf style.

4. Infinity
By knotting the tasseled ends of the scarf, you can create a fun infinity scarf that you can wrap around as many times as you like. Good warmth for below zero days, as well!

5. Nonchalant
An easy way to add color to your outfit, but be relaxed about it. Throw it on whichever way is most natural.

And that's it! Photo credits go to my sister, Gillian. What a capable lass she is!
